Honor The Godly Women in Your Life.

Proverbs 31:1-31; 2 Timothy 1:5;

Proverbs 31:29-31 “29Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

 

Intro: There was a documentary that came out in 2022 called “What is a woman” which tries to define who a woman is. Books have been written about this same topic; Articles have been published. No one would believe that in the 21st century, the world, at least the western world would be confused with the word “woman”. But today, we are celebrating women, because unlike the people of the world, we are not confused about who a women is… These are our grandmas, our mamas, our wives, our sisters, and our daughters. We celebrate you today.

 

The Book of Proverbs has much to say about women, but we are going to look at the closing chapter: Chapter 31 pays tribute to the godly, dedicated woman who brings honor to God and joy to her family.

What makes a woman a godly woman? Let’s look at only 3 of them.

  1. A GODLY WOMAN PROVIDES MORAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Proverbs 31:1 “The sayings of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him.”

  1. Listen, my son! Listen … Listen, my son … Do not spend your strength on women (Proverbs 31:2-3)
  2. Stay away from alcohol (proverbs 31:4-7)
  3. Speak up for those who are powerless (proverbs 31:8-9)
  4. A GODLY WOMAN PROVIDES SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTIONS:2 TIMOTHY 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
  5. A GODLY WOMAN PROVIDES WISDOM:Proverb 31:26 “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

James 3:17 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” According to James, anything outside of these is from the flesh and DEMONIC.

 

Conclusion: God desires that we honor women for the roles they fulfill in our lives – as wives, mothers, sisters and daughters. So don’t be disappointed if you find yourself short of the qualities listed in Proverbs 31. That is your goal as you move on in life but whatever you have achieved and practiced through the years, you deserve our respect and praises.
